I love Lenormand for its predictive powers. But I would never limit the deck to giving predictions. It can be as good when questions are about advice. I think there is a myth in the cards communities that tarot is good for advice and Lenormand is good for predictions.
I’d like to disprove it. Even if I admit that some decks are tailored more towards one system, I am a firm believer that Tarot can be used for predictions and Lenormand can be used for advice or more psychological readings. Cards are cards, just pieces of cardboard. What is important is the intent we give them.
Let’s do an example with Lenormand, for a question that many people ask themselves for the moment.
2021 is here. A new year has come. And we’re still in the middle of a health crisis. Some signs are showing that life could get better later this year. How can we cope with this situation?
These cards always amaze me. I find it fantastic to find the book as the central card. The book can be read on several levels.
First, it talks about secrets, unknowns. Which is exactly the situation we are in. We don’t know, we have no real idea where we are going yet. We are here exactly at the core of the problem, the uncertainty is highlighted in this reading by placing the book as the focal point.
But the book can say much more. Like a good book, things will be revealed, in their time. The crisis we are in evolves, changes with time, and page after page, this book will reveal the story. Books are not static, and this one is certainly not yet completely written.
There is a third aspect, which I find very important, linked to this book, knowledge. Knowledge, we have to educate ourselves on what is going on. We see so much misinformation these days, the book tells you to educate yourself and get some knowledge about what happens.
If we look at the corners, the diagonals, the book becomes very important. We have to look at trusted sources (dog) describing what’s going on on the health level (tree). We cannot trust any source we see, there’s a lot of misinformation on youtube and social media. Look for papers that can be trusted, reliable medical information.
Looking at the other diagonal, the man card can of course represent myself, as I am a man. But in the scope of the question, I’ll look at this card by extension, as a collective us, human beings. This diagonal speaks of course of our upsets (birds) over the unknown (book). It also asks us to speak (birds) with accurate information (book), to check our sources.
The diamond around the center is interesting too. It starts with the moon, a card of how we perceive things. On top of the book, it is of course a warning that we need sometime to correct our perception. The anchor gives hope and stability to that moon. That tells me that even if what we perceive is not always right, at the end, hope remains, and gives a sense of stability in our lives.
Child and bouquet show that small things, small pleasures are important. Even if we cannot do much due to confinements, etc… there is still beauty and pleasure to find, even if small.
Looking at the cartomancy, I am pleased to see a majority of hearts and clubs, that gives me hope that we will use our feelings nicely, that this crisis will allow us to grow and gain something human in our daily lives.
I like these cardsm, they give me a sense of hope, that us, as human race, will do the right thing.
Deck: Rana George Lenormand.
