Tirage en 7

An interesting spread to see the evolution of a situation is the 7 card draw. The 3 cards spread or french cross are very useful when it comes to taking advice for a decision. But if you want to have a longer-term overview, the 7 card spread is perfect.

The first time I saw it was in Marcel Picard’s 1980 book, “Le Langage Secret du Tarot”.

This spread is not read linearly. First of all, and it’s a common practice in the world of cartomancy, we count to move from one card to the next. In the version explained by Marcel Picard, we count by 5. All this will become clear in the example below. Then, as Marcel Picard explains in one of his videos, we can associate cards by triplets, and finally in pairs mirroring the central card.

As said above, this spread is more general in nature than a french cross, which answers a specific question. The tirage en 7 is often used when there is no question, or for a question less specific, for example to ask about the evolution of something in the long term.

So, to stay on a fairly broad topic, I asked my Tarot for some advice on the evolution of my blog.

We start with the Moon, a card that certainly indicates some doubts about the direction to take. There are a lot of things that remain unclear in the direction in which I should direct my blog. A little bit of the atmosphere where you let your imagination run free in all directions. I like this card to start, certainly a good card for writing, because it puts creativity in the spotlight.

If we count 5 from the Moon, we get the Star. Humbly, we pour out our resources. Nice card to follow the Moon, concerning the theme of writing. With the Star, we freely pour out what the imagination has invented in the Moon. A card where you stay close to the nature of things, natural. As we have seen so far with 2 dogs in the Moon, 2 vases in the Star, we are talking about 2 subjects. Nice analogy for my blog which talks about Tarot and Lenormand. So far, everything is fine, we stay in the same tone as what already exists.

The next card is the Pope. Again we find a duality with the 2 characters in front. So I take this as continuing with my 2 favorite subjects, as seen above. The Pope, at this point, is an interesting card. We continue in the same direction, but with a better vision of the future, as shown by his hand which points to the right. I’m going to stop for now, but we’ll come back to this card later.

The next card is Force. And in association with the Pope, one thing that is clear, is that we have 2 mastery cards. So here is a way to take over the blog and direct it towards probably some form of teaching, but also show how to master certain subjects. Probably my articles are often a bit too general and should be more specific. Maybe go deeper.

All this to arrive at XIII, the nameless arcana. Everything that has been seen so far tends towards a transformation, a fundamental reworking. Cutting could also mean reducing and identifying only one activity instead of two. Something that I sometimes think of, but still can’t make a decision about. Whatever happens, as the previous cards suggested, profound changes are likely to happen in a few months.

Then we have the Fool. He takes his baggage and moves straight away! Maybe quitting the blog for something else? Or add something else? In any case, we take our pack and set off on a new adventure, a new direction. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or something else… we’ll see when the time comes. In any case, the combination of XIII followed by the Fool heralds profound changes, or an extension of activities to other forms of media.

Finally, we have the Empress. Whatever happens, whatever the transformations, the spread ends up with someone who stays in control of what’s going on. A comfortable position, a person who controls their domain. The scepter is very interesting, because it makes one think, by referring to the question, of a writing instrument. So whatever transformations, be it blog or whatever, some form of writing stays.

In the second step, if we look at some triplets of cards, we first have the Pope surrounded by the Moon and XIII, which confirms a support, a vision where we transform all the points which remain unclear. This question on blogging and writing opens up other possibilities, which are still a little vague at the moment.

The Force is surrounded by the Star and the Fool, taking control of this blog, and leaving in new directions instead of exhausting itself in all areas. Interesting. If I take this into account with the Pope’s triplet which spoke of transformation, it is obvious that I should review some of the subjects discussed, and eliminate what requires a lot of resources, or which is not well defined, to go in new directions.

The Empress’ triplet, with XIII and the Star around it, also gives the same concept. Regaining control requires cutting off certain subjects or areas and pouring over to others.

The last step is to look at the pairs mirrored around the center card.

The Moon and the Fool suggest, based on what has already been seen, to let creativity go in all directions, but at the same time to move away from the gray areas. The Pope and Strength add a notion of professionalism and mastery. XIII and the Star speak of cutting what requires too many resources.

Magnifique! I suppose you could also use this with Lenormand??

Yes of course, nothing would prevent you from doing it this way.

So the count stops at the center card (in this case the Empress)? Or do you count five one more time and so get the pair of Center + First card, completing the cycle (Empress + Moon)

    Thanks!

The count stops at the center cards, the last one.
